VOIVOD
line up: Snake (Denis Belanger) (vocals)
Piggy (Denis d'Amour) (guitar)
Blacky (Jean Yves Theriault) (bass)
Away (Michel Langevin) (drums)
The band Voivod, formed in november '82 in Quebec, Canada, is in the first
years just one word: noise. Because that's all what's on the debut album "War
and Pain", released in june '84. They do practise a lot, that is made lear on
the second album "Rrroooaaarrr", released two years later. Voivod has developed
an own and unique style on this album: a sorta experimental thrash with all
kinds of influences ranging from jazzrock to Pink Floyd. Drummer Away has made
up a creature with the name VoiVod, that gets the main part in all their lyrics
and album covers. He is found again on the third album, "Killing Technology",
released in february 1987. The band has by now ended a successfull European
tour together with Posessed and Deathrow, and has the status being one of *the*
cultbands of the moment. This is also proven by their fourth and also best
album "Dimension Hatross", released in '88. More psychedelic than before,
Voivod has made an album with a true unique style. There aren't many bands
around these days who can say that.
